News

2012 Goodeve Medal winner

JORS and the OR Society are delighted to announce the 2012 winner of the Goodeve Medal, awarded in recognition of the most outstanding contribution to the philosophy, theory or practice of OR published in JORS each year. The 2012 Medal is awarded for the outstanding paper from Volume 62 (2011):

  1. Breadth of range and depth of stock: forecasting and inventory management at Euro Car Parts Ltd. FREE

    F R Johnston, E A Shale, S Kapoor, R True, A Sheth

Journal of the Operational Research Society 62, 433-441

The judges described the paper as an excellent case study which had a real and sustained impact on the client company. The work demonstrated that theoretical developments can lead to significant benefits in the real world so long as researchers and managers collaborate closely so as to address the practicalities.

This paper is free to read and download throughout December 2012.

Previous winners of the Goodeve Medal are listed here.

We are very pleased to announce that the digitisation of the entire JORS back archive is now complete. The archive can be purchased by libraries via our Site License Business Unit, or individual articles can be purchased via our document delivery option.

Calls for Papers

Special issue in Memory of D.J. White

Guest Editors: Peter Beling and William Scherer , University of Virginia, USA

For more than forty years, D.J. White was a powerful intellectual force in the operational research community. The main purpose of this Special Issue of the Journal of the Operational Research Society is to celebrate D. J. White's contributions to the field. We seek both original papers rooted in Professor White's work, for example decision theory, dynamic programming, Markov decision processes and multi-objective programming and survey papers that reflect broadly on developments in areas of his particular interest and activity.

Deadline for submission of papers: 31 July 2013
