What is a site license

A Palgrave Macmillan site license allows you to provide your users with immediate access to groundbreaking articles. Users benefit from the functionality and convenience of accessing publications online, from Advance Online Publication (AOP) to extensive linking to wider research.

A site license is easy to manage and can be tailored to include the journals most suitable to your institution’s requirements.

  • Academic institutions

How to activate and access online site licenses

To gain online access to the Palgrave Macmillan journals your institution has subscribed to, you need to set up and activate a site license administration account. The institution’s site license administrator can control and update all your institution's subscription information from one administration system including adding IP ranges, associating new license IDs and changing contact details.

Click here to activate your site license

Once set up, access for site licenses is controlled via IP authentication. This means that when you are set up with your site license, your users will have automatic access for all IP address ranges, including proxy servers.

If you are unable to use IP authentication for security reasons please contact your Sales Representative to discuss an alternative arrangement for your online access.

Users are also able to access Palgrave Macmillan Journals via Athens.

Please contact Customer Services if you have any further queries about how to set up online access:
Email: onlinesupportUSA@palgrave.com (Americas) or onlinesupport@palgrave.com (UK and rest of world)

Site license administration account

A site license administration account allows the administrator to manage and monitor all elements of an institution's site license. Logging into the account allows the administrator to:

  • View all licensed content
  • Access monthly usage reports
  • Modify IP ranges and find specific IP addresses
  • View renewal dates
  • Activate new subscriptions
  • Modify administrator details
  • Sign up for communication e-alerts

This account is available only to the site license administrator. More information can be found on the Account Administration page of the Librarians website

Usage Statistics Reports

Monthly reports that measure usage of all content licensed to your institution are provided to the site license administrator. In compliance to COUNTER standards, the reports are uploaded to your site license administration account by the end of every month for the proceeding month. The registered site license administrator will be alerted by email. More information can be found on the Account Administration page of the Librarians website.

Perpetual access to the content from the paid-for year(s)

Our post-cancellation policy ensures institutional customers can retain access to all licensed material upon cancellation of the license agreement. It is applicable to all institutional customers who sign a new site license agreement. Access is subject to payment of an annual access fee.

The access fee supports the costs of hosting content and related customer service. It is payable per publication. Access fees do not apply to customers with a current license to the relevant publication.
